Arrivals & aviationIstanbul Airport VIP service, explained

What a VIP arrival at Istanbul Airport really includes, what it cannot change, and how to choose between meet and greet, fast track and the private terminal.

In short

  • Istanbul Airport VIP service usually means three things: a meet and greet at the aircraft door, fast track lanes through passport control and security, and help with baggage to the car.
  • Istanbul Airport also has a separate terminal for private passengers and general aviation, with its own lounges and checks. It suits private jets and travellers who want to avoid the main terminal altogether.
  • Passport control, customs and security still apply to everyone. A VIP service shortens the walk and the queues; it does not skip the checks.
  • Book at least 24–48 hours ahead, with your flight number and the names on the passports. Wheelchair assistance is requested free from your airline, separately.

A good VIP arrival at Istanbul Airport is quiet and short. Someone meets you as you leave the aircraft. You pass through passport control in a priority lane, your bags are collected for you, and you are in a car within minutes. This guide explains how the Istanbul Airport VIP service works, the options, and what no service can change.

Istanbul Airport (IST) is one of the largest airports in the world, and it feels it. From some gates, the walk to passport control takes fifteen minutes or more. At peak hours the queues can be long. For a family with young children, an older parent or anyone arriving after a long flight, those first forty minutes set the tone of the trip. We arrange arrivals and departures here all year, and these are the questions our clients ask most.

What does an Istanbul Airport VIP service include?

The name varies: VIP service, meet and greet, fast track, VIP arrival service. In practice, most arrival services are built from the same parts:

  1. A greeter at the aircraft. A uniformed assistant waits at the aerobridge or the bus gate with your name, and stays with you until you leave the airport.
  2. Fast track through passport control. You are taken to a priority lane, where one is open. This is the part that saves the most time at busy hours.
  3. Baggage. The assistant helps at the belt, finds a porter and walks you through customs.
  4. The handover to your car. Your driver is waiting at an agreed point outside the terminal, with the car close by.

On departure the same service runs in reverse: someone meets you at the kerb, helps with check-in, takes you through fast-track security and passport control, and walks you to a lounge or your gate.

Meet and greet or fast track: what is the difference?

The two terms are often used as if they mean the same thing. They do not.

  • Meet and greet is a person. Someone receives you, guides you and solves small problems along the way: a lost bag, a missing form, a child who needs a break.
  • Fast track is a lane. It gives you access to priority queues at passport control and security, where the airport offers them.

The best Istanbul Airport meet and greet services include both. Some cheaper offers include only a greeter who walks you through the ordinary queues. When we book an arrival, we confirm that fast track is part of it. If it isn't, we say so before you travel.

The Istanbul Airport VIP terminal: the private option

Istanbul Airport also has a separate terminal for private passengers and general aviation, away from the main building. It has its own lounges, its own passport and customs checks and its own access road. Private jet passengers use it as a matter of course. Some services also let travellers on scheduled flights use it, with a car taking them between the terminal and the aircraft.

The private terminal is the right choice when privacy matters more than anything else: well-known guests, protection details, or families who would rather not walk through a crowded hall. It needs more notice than an ordinary meet and greet, and availability depends on the airline and the flight. Not every scheduled flight can be served this way.

Lounges: airline, commercial and private

Lounges at Istanbul Airport fall into three groups, and they are easy to confuse:

TypeWho gets inBest for
Airline loungesBusiness and first class passengers, and frequent flyers with statusLong connections on the same airline
Commercial loungesAnyone with a paid pass or an eligible cardA quiet hour before an economy flight
Private suites and the private terminalGuests booked through a VIP servicePrivacy, families, well-known guests

A VIP departure usually ends in one of these. If your ticket already includes an airline lounge, the assistant can take you there after fast-track security.

Using the VIP service for a connecting flight

Many of our clients pass through Istanbul on the way somewhere else. A transit assistant meets you at the gate, takes you through transfer security and walks you to your next flight or to a lounge. On a short connection, this is often the difference between making the flight and missing it. If you have a long layover and a valid entry to Türkiye, we can also arrange a car and a few hours in the city.

Families, older travellers and wheelchair assistance

The VIP service is at its most useful for travellers who find a large airport hard: grandparents, parents with babies or toddlers, and anyone with reduced mobility. The assistant sets the pace, finds lifts instead of escalators and keeps the group together.

Wheelchair assistance is a separate service, and it is free. Request it from your airline when you book, ideally at least 48 hours before departure, and it will be ready at the aircraft. A meet and greet works alongside it: the airline's team handles the wheelchair, and your assistant handles everything else, from passport control to the car.

What a VIP service cannot do

It helps to be clear about the limits, because some websites promise more than any airport allows:

  • The checks still apply. Passport control, customs and security are the same for everyone. A VIP service gives you a faster lane and a guide, not a way round them.
  • Visa rules do not change. If your nationality needs a visa or an e-visa for Türkiye, arrange it before you fly.
  • Priority lanes are not always open. At quiet hours they may be closed because there is no queue to skip. The time saved is largest at the busiest times.
  • Delays are the airline's. If your flight is late, a good service simply moves with it. We track every flight and adjust the greeter and the driver.

Leaving Istanbul: the VIP departure

Departures at Istanbul Airport can be slower than arrivals. There is a security check at the terminal entrance, then check-in, then passport control, then a second security check, and the walk to some gates is long. A VIP departure smooths each step:

  • Your assistant meets you at the kerb as the car arrives, and a porter takes the bags.
  • Check-in is handled at a priority desk, or in advance where the airline allows it.
  • You pass through fast-track security and passport control.
  • You are walked to a lounge, with time to rest, and then to the gate at boarding.

Even with fast track, leave the hotel in good time. The drive to the airport is the part no service can shorten, and Istanbul traffic is hard to predict at rush hour. We usually suggest arriving about two hours before an international flight with a VIP departure, and three hours without one.

Which option is right for you?

You are…We usually suggest
Travelling light, on a short business tripFast track and a driver waiting outside
A family with children or grandparentsFull meet and greet with fast track, porter and a van
Connecting through Istanbul on a tight transferA transit assistant from gate to gate
A well-known guest, or travelling with protectionThe private terminal, where available for your flight
Flying privatelyThe private terminal, as part of the flight

Our airport fast-track service covers all of these, with the car arranged as part of the same booking through our airport transfers. If you have not yet booked the flights, we can also find the right seats and times on scheduled airlines through our flight tickets service, so the arrival is planned from the start. VIP service at Sabiha Gökçen Airport

Istanbul has a second major airport, Sabiha Gökçen (SAW), on the Asian side. It offers meet and greet, fast track and private lounges too, and the process is much the same. Two differences are worth knowing. Sabiha Gökçen is smaller, so the walk is shorter. But it is further from the European side, where many hotels are, so the drive after landing matters more. Our guide to Istanbul airport transfers compares the two airports in detail.

How to book an Istanbul Airport VIP arrival

Book at least 24 to 48 hours ahead, and earlier in July, August and around Eid, when demand is highest. We need four things:

  1. Your flight number, date and the airport (IST or SAW).
  2. The full names as they appear on the passports, and the number of travellers.
  3. The number and size of bags, so the right car and porter are ready.
  4. Anything that needs care: children's ages, wheelchair needs, a protection detail or a preference for privacy.

We then confirm the greeter, the fast track and the car together, so one person is responsible for the whole arrival. You receive the greeter's details before you fly. After landing you look for your name, and nothing else.

If you are flying privately, the arrangements are different and simpler. Our guide to private jets and helicopters in Türkiye explains how private terminals work across the country.

Checked by the Megis team on 4 November 2026. Opening hours, rules and seasons change; we confirm every detail again when we plan your trip.

Questions

Is meet and greet the same as fast track at Istanbul Airport?

No. Meet and greet is a person who receives you and stays with you through the airport. Fast track is access to the priority lanes at passport control and security. Most VIP arrival services combine the two, but it is worth checking that fast track is named in what you book.

Can someone meet me at the aircraft door at Istanbul Airport?

Yes, where the airport's rules allow it for your flight. On most international arrivals the greeter waits at the aerobridge or the bus gate and walks you from there. If your aircraft parks at a remote stand, you are usually collected at the bottom of the steps.

Do I still need to queue for passport control with a VIP service?

You still pass through passport control, but through a priority lane where one is open. At busy hours this saves most of the waiting. Visa or e-visa rules for your nationality apply exactly as they would without the service.

Does a VIP service help with a connecting flight at Istanbul Airport?

It can. A transit assistant meets you off the first flight, takes you through transfer security and walks you to the next gate or a lounge. It is especially useful for families, older travellers and tight connections.

Is there a VIP service at Sabiha Gökçen Airport too?

Yes. Sabiha Gökçen, on the Asian side, offers meet and greet, fast track and private lounges as well. The process is similar, and the car waiting outside matters even more there, because the drive to the European side can be long.

Is fast track worth it at Istanbul Airport?

Fast track at Istanbul Airport is worth it when the passport queues are long: evening arrivals, summer weekends, the days around Eid, and whenever you travel with children or older parents. Several long-haul and regional flights often land within the same hour, and the priority lane saves most of the wait. At quiet hours the saving is smaller, and a priority lane may even be closed because there is no queue to skip. For a short trip with light bags, fast track and a waiting driver are usually enough.

How long does it take to get out of Istanbul Airport after landing?

The time it takes to get out of Istanbul Airport after landing depends on the gate, the hour and the passport queues, so no fixed figure is reliable. From some gates the walk to passport control alone takes fifteen minutes or more, and evening peaks bring long lines. With a meet and greet and fast track, an assistant walks you the shortest way, takes you through a priority lane where one is open and collects your bags, and the driver waits at an agreed point outside.

How early should I arrive at Istanbul Airport for an international flight?

For an international flight from Istanbul Airport, we suggest arriving about three hours before departure, or about two hours with a VIP departure service. Departures involve a security check at the terminal entrance, check-in, passport control and a second security check, and the walk to some gates is long. The drive is the part no service can shorten, so leave extra time at weekday rush hour, on Friday afternoons and before holidays. Our airport transfer guide lists the worst hours.
