In short
- A private concierge in Istanbul is one dedicated contact who plans, books and manages everything around a stay: hotels, transfers, restaurants, guides, yachts, flights and events.
- Unlike a hotel concierge, a private concierge works only for you, before you arrive and after you leave, and is not tied to one building.
- Unlike a travel agency or DMC, a private concierge stays with you during the trip and handles the changes, not only the booking.
- Before you hire one, ask who your single contact will be, how quotes work, who actually operates aviation and security, and how your personal details are kept.
A private concierge in Istanbul is one person, backed by a team, who takes care of everything around your trip. It is the most personal kind of concierge service Istanbul offers. They find the hotel and the table, send the car and brief the guide. When the plan changes, they change it too. You make one request and deal with one contact.
The word "concierge" covers very different services, from the desk in a hotel lobby to membership clubs with annual fees. This guide explains what a concierge service in Istanbul actually does day to day and how it differs from a hotel concierge, a travel agency and a DMC. It also covers what to ask before you trust anyone with your plans.
What does a private concierge do?
A private concierge plans, books and manages the practical side of a stay, so that you do not have to. In Istanbul that usually means a mix of the following:
- Stays: hotels, serviced residences and private villas, checked before you arrive. Room type, view, connecting rooms and late check-out are agreed in advance.
- Arrivals: VIP meet and greet at the airport, fast-track through passport control and a chauffeur who follows your flight. Our guide to Istanbul Airport's VIP services explains each step.
- Getting around: a car and driver by the hour or the day, intercity journeys, private jets and helicopters through licensed operators.
- Days out: licensed private guides, a private boat on the Bosphorus, tours across Türkiye at your own pace.
- Tables: reservations at MICHELIN-starred and well-known restaurants, private rooms and iftar dinners in Ramadan.
- Occasions: birthdays, proposals, weddings, corporate dinners and trade fair weeks.
- Everything in between: interpreters, a personal shopper, a doctor who speaks your language, flowers in the room, something forgotten at home and needed by tomorrow.
The value is not any single booking. It is having one person who knows the whole plan, remembers how you like things done and can rearrange the rest when one piece moves.
Hotel concierge or private concierge: what is the difference?
A good hotel concierge is a gift, and Istanbul has many. But they work for the hotel, inside the hotel, while you are a guest. A private concierge works for you, across every hotel, city and service, from the first email until you are home.
| Question | Hotel concierge | Private concierge |
|---|---|---|
| Works for | The hotel and its guests | You, your family or your company |
| When | During your stay | Before, during and after the trip |
| Where | Mostly in and around the hotel | Anywhere you travel, including several cities |
| Knows you | From this stay | From every trip, preferences kept for next time |
| Changes the hotel? | No | Yes, if a different stay suits you better |
The two work well together. Many of our clients' hotel concierges are the people we call first when we need something done in the building.
How is a concierge different from a travel agency or a DMC?
A travel agency sells and books travel: flights, hotels, packages. Its job is largely done once the booking is confirmed. A DMC (destination management company) runs ground arrangements for groups, usually for other agencies or event organisers rather than for private travellers directly.
A private concierge is closer to a personal chief of staff for travel. The booking is the middle of the job, not the end. The work continues during the trip: the dinner that needs moving, the flight that is late, the guest who arrives a day early. And it is not limited to travel: a concierge also handles the dinners, gifts, interpreters and errands that no agency would touch.
What does "VIP concierge" or "luxury concierge" mean in practice?
The labels are used loosely. In practice, a VIP concierge in Istanbul tends to mean three things done well:
- Access. Tables that are hard to get, rooms with the right view, a boat on a summer Saturday, a car at the aircraft steps.
- Discretion. Your name, your plans and your guests' details are shared only with those who need them for a booking. Close protection, when needed, is arranged through licensed security providers.
- Time. Requests answered in the evening and at weekends, because plans change then too.
Luxury here is not about gold taps. It is about nothing going wrong, and about someone noticing the details before you have to mention them.

When is a private concierge worth it?
Not every trip needs one. A private concierge is most useful when:
- Several people or generations travel together. Grandparents, children, nannies and drivers all need different things on the same day. See our guide to Istanbul with children.
- The trip has moving parts. Istanbul for three nights, then Cappadocia, then a week on a gulet off Göcek, with flights, transfers and a boat in between.
- There is an occasion. A proposal on the Bosphorus, a fiftieth birthday, a wedding or a company dinner for forty.
- Language or custom is a barrier. Halal dining, prayer times, women-only spa hours or a female guide can all be arranged quietly. Our guide to Muslim-friendly travel in Türkiye covers the details.
- Your time is the scarce thing. One email instead of twenty, and one person to call.
What to ask before you hire a concierge in Istanbul
Whether you choose us or someone else, these questions separate a real service from a website:
- Who exactly will be my contact? One named person, or a shared inbox?
- How do quotes work? You should see a clear quote before anything is booked, with no surprises afterwards.
- Who operates the jet, the helicopter and the security? In Türkiye these must be licensed operators and licensed security companies. Ask for names.
- What happens out of hours? How are evening and weekend requests handled?
- How is my data kept? Passport copies and guest lists are personal data, protected in Türkiye under the KVKK and, for many European clients, under the GDPR.
- Do you work outside Istanbul? Most trips do not stay in one city.
What it looks like: one family, four days
A real pattern, with the details changed. A family of seven flies in from Riyadh in July: two grandparents, two parents, three children and a nanny. Their single request reads, in effect: "Four days in Istanbul, a quiet hotel on the water, halal food, something the children will enjoy, and one evening for the adults."
- Before they land: two connecting suites with a Bosphorus view, cots and a ground-floor room for the grandparents, all confirmed in writing. A V-Class van and a sedan are booked for the whole stay.
- Arrival: met at the aircraft door, fast-track through passport control, luggage collected for them, and at the hotel within the hour.
- Day two: the Historic Peninsula in the cool of the morning with an Arabic-speaking licensed guide, back for lunch and a rest, Miniatürk with the children at the end of the afternoon.
- Day three: a private boat to the Princes' Islands, lunch by the sea, home before the evening traffic.
- Day four: shopping in Nişantaşı with a personal shopper for the parents while the nanny and grandparents take the children to a park. Then dinner for two in a private room, with no alcohol on the table.
Along the way, one child is unwell on day three. A paediatrician who speaks Arabic visits the hotel that afternoon, and the boat is moved to the next morning. Nobody in the family makes a phone call. That is the job.
What a good concierge will not do
Trust also comes from knowing the limits. A responsible concierge in Türkiye will not:
- Pretend to be the operator. Private jets and helicopters fly with licensed operators, and close protection comes from licensed security providers. The concierge chooses, briefs and manages them.
- Act as an estate agent. If you are looking at property, a concierge can support your search and your visits, but brokerage belongs to licensed agents.
- Promise what cannot be promised. A balloon flight in Cappadocia depends on the wind, and some restaurant tables are released only a few weeks ahead. You should be told that plainly, with a plan B.
- Share your details. What you tell your concierge stays with them.
How a request works at Megis
Our process is deliberately simple, and it is the same for one dinner or a month-long family summer:
- Tell us. Send a request through the request form or by email: dates, people, places and how you like things done.
- We design. You receive two or three options and a clear quote before anything is confirmed. We change it until it fits.
- We deliver. Once you confirm, we book, manage and follow through, and the same person stays reachable throughout.
You can use us for a single request, with nothing to join, or as a private client with a dedicated contact who keeps your preferences for every trip. How we work explains both.
A private concierge in Türkiye and beyond
Istanbul is our home, but most plans travel further. We arrange stays and journeys across Türkiye: Bodrum, Göcek, Antalya, Cappadocia, the Black Sea highlands and the ski resorts. We also work in the Gulf, the Levant and North Africa, Georgia and Cyprus, London, Austria and Australia. The destinations page lists them. Wherever you go, the contact stays the same.
If you are planning your first trip, our guides on the best time to visit Istanbul and how to spend three to five days in the city are a good place to start.
Checked by the Megis team on 4 November 2026. Opening hours, rules and seasons change; we confirm every detail again when we plan your trip.
