1. I

   Day I

   Trabzon and Sümela

   A flight to Trabzon and the drive up the Altındere valley to Sümela, the monastery set into the cliff face.

   

2. II

   Days II–III

   Uzungöl, slowly

   Two nights by the lake: tea on a terrace above the water, a walk at dusk and an unhurried day in between.

   

3. III

   Day IV

   The Fırtına valley

   Stone bridges, river paths and the castle of Zilkale on its rock, with lunch beside the water.

   

4. IV

   Days V–VI

   The high plateaus

   Up to the summer meadows and wooden houses above Ayder, a night in the mountains, then down to the coast and the flight home.
